My Approach to Treatment
Chiropractic Adjustments & "Soft-Tissue" Therapy
In my early years of practice (in the early 2000's) I was getting pretty good results with just traditional adjustments of the spine and extremity joints. Improving movement and function of joints is a key to relieving pain syndromes, performing better at work or recreation, and increasing general health and vitality. But, what allowed me to improve my outcomes and get excellent results in less time was the addition of "soft-tissue" therapies. It turns out, the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and fascia that support the joints are just as important to treat as the joints themselves.
Fascial Manipulation® is an advanced soft-tissue therapy created by Italian physician, Luigi Stecco, MD that addresses "dense points" and "pain points" in the tissues that wrap the muscles, ligaments, and tendons- called fascia. What's most interesting about this technique is that the most important points to release are not the painful ones, but rather the "dense" points above and/or below the symptom site. An individualized soft-tissue and joint manipulation treatment regimen is a winning recipe for long term symptom resolution and prevention of recurrence.
Answered Questions
What conditions do you treat? - Low back & sacral pain, upper back & shoulder pain, neck pain & headache, hand pain & carpal tunnel, plantar fasciitis & foot pain, elbow pain & epicondylitis, and sports injuries. My approach is best suited for subacute and chronic conditions... Acute new injures that are extremely painful are best treated with rest and/or medical care for at least a week before soft tissue and joint manipulations are possible.
How much does treatment cost? - Time of service fees are $40 for new patient visit and $35 for a regular appointment. If you have Medicare, your co-pay will be about $10. If you have private insurance, I will quote your benefits for you (average out of pocket cost per treatment ranges from $10 to $20, unless visit is applied to your deductible). In a your appointment you will receive spinal adjustments and Fascial Manipulation soft tissue therapy. Also, I may show you posture, breathing, or restorative exercise, etc.
I have reservations about “adjustments?” - No problem. Each patient is unique and will have a choice based on preference and comfort level between traditional chiropractic adjustment, activator® adjustment, or a non-thrust mobilization. Most of our therapy time will be spent utilizing soft tissue therapies.
What is an office visit like? - I run a solo practice in a shared office complex with other professionals. When you arrive in the waiting room I'll invite you back at your appointment time. Scheduling is available 24/7 online on your own computer, tablet, or phone at www.mattchiro.com
Do you accept Insurance? - Alliance Network, Blue Cross, Badger Care/Forward Health, Regular Medicare,* some Quartz plans, WEA Trust, WPS. *Medicare Advantage Plans are not accepted at this time. AIso note, I do not accept Workers Comp or Auto Accident claims.
What are your Treatment Plans? - If you have a pain syndrome like the ones described above, I usually spend more time on soft tissue therapies and recommend 1-2 treatments a week for a total of 8 treatments at a time. I can usually get you good results in this time period. If you get better sooner, great! If not, we can keep working as long as you are making improvements, or I will coordinate care with your family doctor, PT, or specialist.
Wellness visits are recommended every 3-6 weeks for general health (or sports/vocational performance) and prevention of muscle, joint, & posture decline- but it’s up to you when you want to come in– no pressure to sign up for long-term treatment plans. Wellness visits include full spinal adjustments and Fascial Manipulation®
