MyoBar IASTM Tools for Manual Therapy Professionals

MyoBar IASTM Tools for Manual Therapy Professionals.

I've trained with Drs. Warren Hammer, Tom Hyde, Terri Longamanni, and David Graston- the big names in soft tissue therapy that brought IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization) to the manual therapy world 20+ years ago.  I felt strongly that inter-professional and proprietary conflicts were limiting the true scope of this therapy.  So, In 2010 I designed my own ergonomically and clinically improved instruments under the brand name MyoBar.

IASTM tools help in diagnosis of tissue restriction by amplifying tissue density similar to the way a needle amplifies the grooves in a record.  Ultimately, they improve outcomes by assuring better clinical focus and can make better use of your appointment time with the patient.  They are normally billed under Therapeutic Procedure- 97110 and are a perfect complementary adjunct to exercise, manipulation, laser, and/or other therapeutic activities.  Top conditions treated successfully are the pain syndromes listed in the menu above.

IASTM tools are not a replacement for hands-on contact, but provide more specific "access" to certain anatomical structures like smaller capsules/ligaments or deeper fascial layers.

Pictured here is the Myofascial Pro IASTM Clinic Set.  It features the stainless steel Trigger Point Tool and three ergonomic "edge" tools scaled to anatomical targets from small to large.  Edge tools perform a "scraping" action in the soft tissues and help in the detection and treatment of fascial densities or restrictions.  The "scale" relates to the size of anatomy and amplitude of tissue stroke.  For example, the smaller muscles or joint capsules of the hand would require a small instrument contact and a short treatment stroke amplitude.  The quadriceps muscle of the hip would require a "medium" instrument contact surface and larger amplitude tissue strokes.

The MyoBar Myofascial Pro Clinic Set gives manual therapy professionals the most highly versatile and ergonomic IASTM tools available on the market today.

The Trigger Point Tool is used mainly for the treatment of muscle bellies.  It is the most versatile and commonly used instrument in practice, because it can be applied to nearly any muscle group.  It is intuitive to hold and is easily applied through cloths for quick treatments on sensitive areas like the costosternal joints, coccyx, and inguinal ligaments.

The Detail Tool is has a convexity profiled after the human thumb, but is thinner and includes a "hook" and "concavity" for even more anatomical target accessibility.  Ideal for joint capsules, small tendons/ligaments, and nerve "flossing" for compression neuropathies.  Much more refined than other big name IASTM brands, because of its perfect balance and ability to be manipulated ergonomically by the practitioner in the "pen hold."

The Healing Edge M3 instrument is scaled for medium sized anatomical targets and 2-6" tissue strokes- as would be used in the lateral quadriceps.  It features an easy to hold scalloped handle with sure grip, thin scanning concavity, large radius edge (for deeper work), and tissue reliefs for deeper penetration of the main treatment convex edge.

The Advanced Practice "Large" Bar is used for muscle groups in the back, hip, and lower extremity.  What used to be time consuming and physically demanding for the practitioner  (especially in muscular athletes or laborers) is easy when mechanical advantage is on your side.  It only takes 2-3 minutes of deep 8-12" strokes with the AP (L) Bar to release the most stubborn movement/fascia restrictions.
